Bible Study on Giving Offering And Tithing Onto God’s Store House according to Genesis 22, Proverbs 3:9, Hebrews 11:6, Luke 6:38, Malachi 6, Matthew 23:23, 2 Corinthians 8:7

Giving is the expression of our love and worship for God. And giving and worship always go hand in hand. You can’t worship without giving, you can give without worship. Worship and giving is not because of our circumstances but because of our relationship with God. So was the unquestionable relationship Abraham had with God as in Genesis: 22. 1. And it came to pass after these things, that God did prove Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham. And he said, Here am I. 2. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah. And offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. 3. And Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. And he clave the wood for the burnt-offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

Giving your best and your first to God, is an indication of the conditions of our heart towards Him. For God is after our heart and not our money, rarely does a church issues reminder, penalties and constantly chase after it members for tithe and offering. As God does not need our money but we need to give to worship God. As shown in Proverbs: 3. 9. Honor Jehovah with thy substance, And with the first-fruits of all thine increase: 10. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, And thy vats shall overflow with new wine.

Giving is always an act of faith in God, who is also our creator and provider according to Hebrews: 11. 6. And without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing [unto him]; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that seek after him. And those who believed in Him shall be rewarded abundantly, and exceedingly to the amount that they have sowed into His kingdom according to Luke: 6. 38. give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, shall they give into your bosom. For with what measure ye mete it shall be measured to you again. In contrary, people who have little faith in God that He is the provider and that He can multiply many folds what have been sowed, will sow sparingly and keep the wealth for themselves and hoping that it will last long.

There are 2 types of giving according to the Bible I.e. tithe and offering. Tithing is an act of obedience and diligence in handling God’s riches entrusted upon a person. Tithe allows God to take care of His earthly ministries and to create His kingdom of heaven on earth, by virtue of feeding and care for the poor and needy, to heal and nurse the sick and despair and to send evangelist into the missions field. The truth is God does need any man’s money to do any of the above for He is the creator of all things and He owns everything on this earth, your wealth and even you. God is no one’s debtor, He is trustful and graceful to allow His creation to partner with Him on the above ministries.

To rob from God and short change God of His 10% tithe is a serious no no and may bring about curses onto us, our family and our tribes as in Matthew: 23. 23. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these ye ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone. And again in Malachi: 3. 8. Will a man rob God? yet ye rob me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. 9. Ye are cursed with the curse; for ye rob me, even this whole nation. 10. Bring ye the whole tithe into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith Jehovah of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough [to receive it]. The God’s store house is the place where we receive God’s food I.e. the Word of God. This is the only place in the Bible where God ask us to test Him on His abundance blessings through an open heaven, that is so over flowing until no store house can contain.

The second type of giving to God is offering, which is the extra portion after fulfilling his/er 10% tithe. It is a hypothesis based on facts that early Christians were already giving and contributing beyond their 10% tithe requirements, hence the new testament talks more about giving offering instead of tithe. The records of early Christians generously giving and offering to God is doted throughout the book of Acts and Corinthians as in 2 Corinthians: 9. 6. But this [I say,] He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he that soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 7. [Let] each man [do] according as he hath purposed in his heart: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. When giving it is important to give out a cheerful and peaceful heart, else better not give at that moment. For a grudging giving and giving out of obligation, the giver shall be lowly esteemed by God. Besides, a cheerful has potential to give exceeding his 10% and won’t be calculative with God.

In conclusion, as Christians the main point that we are givingĀ  sacrificially onto the kingdom of God, is simply because we have been abounded by His immense love and grace on top of every other things that we have received, tasted and seen. So that we can be a blessing to others in Christ Jesus says in 2 Corinthians: 8. 7. But as ye abound in everything, [in] faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and [in] all earnestness, and [in] your love to us, [see] that ye abound in this grace also.
