Jesus said that I have to go back to his father, but I will send somebody called the Holy Spirit to help. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is important, even Jesus reminded His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit until it is given to them before departing as in Acts: 1. 4. and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, [said he], ye heard from me: Acts: 1. 5. For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence.
According to Jesus the importance of the Holy Spirit is that the Holy Spirit can do even greater things than Him. Because the Bible promises us that we can do greater things in life as in John: 14. 12. Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.
We should stop depending on ourselves but rely on the Holy Spirit as when we are baptized with the Holy Spirit, we will receive power from high to do great works for God. As followers of Christ we are made conquerors and victors in the name of Jesus. Jesus will not send us into the spiritual battle field without given us the proper equipments, armour and weapons. For God wants us to have all the things we need in serving His kingdom.
The gift of the Holy Spirit is freely given and not earned by the grace of God. Although the gifts is free to those who qualify, we still need to receive these gifts of the Holy Spirit according to Acts: 2. 38. And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
One of these gifts are the ability to speak in tongues. It is not the only signs of baptism by the Holy Spirit, but it is part of the whole package of being baptized by the Holy Spirit. However, one doesn’t have to be able speak in tongues by being baptized by the Holy Spirit, but it is frequently used as an evidence of the baptism by the Holy Spirit as in Acts: 2. 4. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts: 4. 31. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken wherein they were gathered together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Acts: 19. 6. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
The importance of speaking in tongue is that it is the spiritual language, where no man can understand, in order to communicate with God and the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, it helps us to strengthen and edifieth ourselves and the church of Christ as in 1 Corinthians: 14. 1. Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual [gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy. 2. For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and exhortation, and consolation. 4. He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. We have the choice whether to speak in tongues or in human language, however when everyone speak in tongues, we create a spiritual atmosphere. Furthermore, speaking in tongues is a weapon used in spiritual warfare to fight against the forces of Satan.
Stop running into the battlefield without the weapon by the Holy Spirit, start depending on the Holy Spirit. With the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we will get empowered and thus overcome all obstacles like we never see before. Greater things we will do only by the Holy Spirit saith in the Word of God.
