Bible Study on Celebrating Singlehood As A Gift Of God according to Matthew 19:31, 1 Corinthians 7, Galatians 6:10, 1 Timothy 6:6

Although the bible sanctify that marriage is an institution or state of 2 persons ordained by God and a person is complete when they found their soul mate. On the contrary, it is not mentioned that unmarried people are incomplete in any way. Besides, some myth claims that single people are always on a prowl or something wrong with them mentally, sexually or emotionally.

However, some people remain unmarried due to certain circumstances whether internal factors or external factors. For example internal factors are like in Matthew: 19. 12. For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

However, some other internal factors are due to personal circumstances that makes them difficult to relate to the opposite sex I.e. frequent rejection or lost of own self esteem. In cases some might be too emotionally and psychologically battered. Or due to medical conditions or psychological conditioning by one’s parents, guardians or buddies using constant slandering, lying, provocation, teasing, etc.

Some people can choose to remain single by their own choice. Some of the reasons to remain single are like due to occupation or call of God to serve him. To remain single in serving God through celibacy is of utmost Holy and pure as one is putting God first before his or her own sexual desires.

The advantages for being single is carefreeness. During troubled time like war, mutiny or natural calamity, it is advised to not take on additional stress through marriage or prefer to delay it until better times. Without the additional baggage or burden, one can serve God whole heartedly.

Single people have greater freedom to serve compared to married couples. Partly the single have less financial and family commitment to hold them back. And they have more personal and free time to study the scriptures and mediate in the word of God, discipling people and go for missions on a moments notice as witnessed in Paul’s life in pages of 1 Corinthians: 7. 32. But I would have you to be free from cares. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord: 33. but he that is married is careful for the things of the world, how he may please his wife, 34. and is divided. [So] also the woman that is unmarried and the virgin is careful for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married is careful for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

Ruth was a single and a supreme care giver. When her other siblings has gone back she could take care of her mother in law. Anna was also a single and she had plenty of time studying the scriptures and was an intercessor for others. All these are possible because of being single.

However, some of the downsides of being unmarried are sexual temptations as depicted in 1 Corinthians: 7. 9. But if they have not continency, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn. Being single has the gift of celibacy and keeping sexual desires under control. Moreover, singles are prone to loneliness physically and emotionally. And there might be some real concerns when one becomes ill or aging. Single people might also become over self centerness.

As singleness is a gift a God. While still being single do celebrate your blessings of freedom, flexibility and spontaneity. 1 Corinthians: 7. 7. Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. Howbeit each man hath his own gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that. 8. But I say to the unmarried and to widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

A single can serve God better as in 1 Corinthians: 7. 32. But I would have you to be free from cares. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

When being single it is important to watch out for sexual temptations, loneliness and becoming self-centerness. Single people is encourage to develop authentic and wholesome relationships with members if the family of God and to be who you are truly you are and not wearing a mask or painting our skin as showed in Galatians: 6. 10. So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith.

Grow the true you in Christ and become a more beautiful person in the image of God as mentioned 1 Corinthians: 7. 34. and is divided. [So] also the woman that is unmarried and the virgin is careful for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married is careful for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

Single people can also obsess theirself with God as described in 1 Corinthians: 7. 20. Let each man abide in that calling wherein he was called. 21. Wast thou called being a bondservant? Care not for it: nay, even if thou canst become free, use [it] rather. Single people can crave Godly contentment as in 1 Timothy: 6. 6. But godliness with contentment is great gain:

The public needs to be more accepting, sensitive and understanding of the circumstances why the single people remained so. Single hood is not a curse, but it is a gift of God and a unique season of opportunity to grow, know and serve others and God. Last but not least, God has wonderful plans for us and when the time is right the ‘Mr Right’ (not Mr Alright) or ‘Miss Right’ (not Mis Sight) might just appear from no where.
